A bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia responded to submissions made by senior advocate Aparajita Singh, who is assisting the apex court as an amicus curiae in matters related to pollution, particularly focusing on winter air pollution and crop residue burning.
The bench acknowledged the “serious problem” of air pollution during the approaching winter season and crop residue burning, as brought to their attention by the amicus. Singh informed the court that these concerns are currently under the purview of the CAQM.
“We call upon the CAQM to urgently provide a report on the measures taken to control air pollution in and around the capital,” stated the bench.
The case has been scheduled for further hearing on October 31.
Singh also raised another critical issue, stating, “With the onset of autumn and the approaching Diwali festival, the problem of air pollution is expected to worsen.”
